process and faq

What is the process for ordering custom designs?

First, we invite you to our home showroom for an initial consultation. For those who aren't local, we can arrange another method that's convenient for you. We will discuss your needs and vision, and document all of the appropriate details for your project. Make sure to bring any color swatches, inspiration, or other important pieces that you want incorporated into your project. The non-refundable fee for our consultation is $50.00. If you decide to work with us on your project, this fee will be applied to your order.

Based on the information from our consultation, we will email you at least two design concepts with quotes for each concept. Once you choose your favorite concept, or suggest one from a combination of the concepts, we will send you a contract detailing the project. You will send back the signed contract along with 50% of your total order. Design work will begin once we receive your signed contract and deposit. Payment is non-refundable once work begins.

After the chosen concept is designed, we will make sure that you approve the design and applicable details such as papers and colors. We'll also have you proof everything for typos or errors in the information. This can be done in person or through email. Once the design is fully proofed and approved, a 25% payment of your total order is due. Production will begin and depend on the chosen outcome of your project. This step could include printing and assembly, preparing digital files, etc. Upon delivery of your project, the remaining 25% payment is due.

What happens during our initial consultation?

Our initial consultation together serves many purposes. Most importantly, we get to know you, your dreams, and what you're expecting from this experience. At the same time, you get to know us, how we work, and whether we're a good match for you. We invite you to our home showroom for your consultation, but if you're not local we can arrange an alternate method. We will talk about your project, look at samples or swatches that you like, and document the details needed to create design concepts for you. Finally, we'll have the chance to explain our design process if you're not familiar with it, and answer any questions you may have.

How long will my project take?

With the nature of design, and the fact that every project is different, it is hard to predict how long a project will take. Even with regular feedback and communication, some projects may take only a few weeks while others take a few months or longer. Make sure to allow plenty of time for projects that require multiple aspects on our part and/or additional steps on your part, such as addressing and mailing invitations. We will discuss possible timelines when we present you with design concepts, but feel free to contact us at any time about our current project load or the status of your project.

Can you match specific colors?

We will do our best to match any color(s) you desire. Bring any fabric swatches or tangible pieces to our initial consultation and we will find the best match from our Pantone library. We cannot, however, match colors from online or digital sources as colors vary with every monitor and device. We suggest that you print the digital source, make sure it's the color you want, and bring it to our consultation.

Can you include a photo in my design?

The short answer is: most likely. If it's a photo taken by Rye Designs, then there will be no problem including it in a project. If it's a photo that you own, whether printed or digital, we'll want to make sure that the quality is high enough for your project. We can discuss this, and how to submit a personal photo, at our initial consultation.
